Closing of book section, Monster Clothes to move in?!

Due to the downturn in the economy our sales have dropped drastically this year, so if you like the merchandise that we carry, and all of our work in the Wallingford community, PLEASE come in and patronize us, every little sale helps! To help us weather the downturn in the economy we are moving out of our book section this week. We plan to continue carrying the same items, they will just inhabit a smaller, more cramped space. We also plan to specialize even more in the fun, wacky cards, as cards are always our best selling category, and in these tough times, people still want to give a little something. We hope to become the premiere fun, wacky greeting card shop in Seattle.

With a little luck (looks like this is going to happen), a store called Monster Clothing will be moving into the book section. Monster currently has a store in Ballard, and is a very compatible business with us. The current plan is to leave all of the interior doorways open, so when you come to visit us, be sure to check them out.

If you can't afford to shop, maybe you can help our own Number Six (a former tech guy) find outside work. Find out more about him in his blog.

And finally, for those of you who've wondered (thanks for asking!) whether our downturn in sales has anything to do with Archie McPhees moving in to the neighborhood. The answer is a big fat NO! If anything, they've been good for us. We've always had a good relationship with them, sending people back and forth.  We may look like it, but we really don't overlap that much . Anyway if someone was down in Ballard, and Archie's told them to visit us, they chance that they would was low; however with them six blocks away, people do come visit us when reccommeded by Archie's. Plus, with them around it makes Wallingford THE place to come when you want fun, wacky stuff, which is good for us and the whole neighborhood.

Not A Number surprised by Michael Moore

During the 6pm showing of Michael Moore's movie Capitalism a Love Story, we were pleased to have aa phone call from Michael Moore himself! During this conversation we asked Michael if he would support Not A Number, Inc's candidacy for Seattle City Council. He agreed to come support us when we get into full campaign mode! Our own Number Six even ran some of his own ideas by him. He even said that he might mention some of our ideas on TV. Looking forward to a mention from Michael Moore crashing our webserver!

At this showing we had about 25 people, and we were able to ask him a couple of other questions, including one regarding the Supreme Court decision around the rights of corporate free speech - the ruling that has spurred Not A Number, Inc. to run for office.

Michael urged everyone to stay active, and keep up the pressure on our legislators for change.

Vigilance and quick police response nab grafittier

While sitting in Wallingford Pizza House about 10:30PM last night, we noticed a stealthy figure climbing on the roof across the street. The figure had a can of spray paint and proceeded to graffitti the wall on the roof above Starbucks. We called 911 as we watched to report graffitti in progress. The figure climbed back off the roof walked away. About 2 minutes later the police showed up and began to patrol the area. They returned about 15 minutes later with a suspect, who they apprehended with a backpack with spray paint in it.

We encourage everyone to be vigilant for this sort of thing, and when it happens call 911. The 911 operators are trained on how to route non-emergency calls, so don't worry about tieing up resources. Plus this is where the city collects data on how to assign Police resources throughout the city. So when you see something call!

Not A Number, Inc. considers run for office

In light of the January decision by the Supreme Court that corporations have the rights granted citizens under the Constitution, Not A Number, Inc. dba Not A Number Cards & Gifts has decided to form a committee to explore the possibility of running for office. The committee is forming now to explore the legal issues around this, and the potential offices.

Current thought is to run for Seattle City Council, although other offices such as State Legislator are being considered.

Some of the issues that will need to be resolved include:

  • How old does a corporation have to be to run?
  • Where can a corporation run i.e. where does a corporation reside - place of business, mailing address, address of registered agent?

One of the main platforms of Not A Number, Inc. will be that laws and/or the Constitution should be amended so that corporations are not allowed to run for office and/or corporations are taxed 100% of their revenue when they run for office.

Our campaign slogan will be "A vote for us is patently ridiculous"

Appears we were hacked!

Our apologies, but it appears that our website was exploited i.e. hacked in the last 2-3 weeks. We hope no one was seriously infected. We're not sure what the virus was, but it has been removed. This virus caused some problems in updating our blogs - we had wondered why we couldn't update our blogs. Moral of the story is that it is worth investigating why things appear to be running slow sometimes!

Ed was great listen for him on the radio

It was really great to hang out with Ed Begly Jr. last night. He had a lot of environmental information to share. While he was in the store he did a radio interview for Kiro , and we hope to set him up for an interview today on Komo1000. So be sure to listen for him today. Thanks again to Ed for coming and hanging out with us.  Signed copies of his book are still available.
